The Data Science and Business Analytics Program at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw is a four-semester program on a full-time basis that provides students with outstanding knowledge of data science. The program leads to Masters of Arts degree and is compatible with the Bologna system.

Data science combines different scientific methods to extract information from data. The Data Science is a rapidly extending part of quantitative analysis, that is highly demanded at the market. Its popularity reflects availability of vast amount of (big) data that used appropriately gives great opportunities for business.

Data Scientist combine broad knowledge and skills of data analysis, econometrics and machine learning, IT programing with soft skills that all together makes them highly desirable experts. Courses are mainly based on R i Python software.

In order to allow our students the best possible development, not only we offer the best quality on-site courses, but also we collaborate with the DataCamp education platform and our students have access to all DataCamp courses for free.

The Data Science and Business Analytics programme gives all necessary knowledge and skills to become very good Data Scientist. In addition to hard IT and analytical courses, the program includes classes in the field of microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, as well as communication and self-presentation, negotiations or case-study for business.

Career perspectives

Solid theoretical & empirical background will allow graduates to flexibly adapt to the demands of the changing labour market. Their place of employment may in principle be every institution/company where advanced data analysis is needed. Examples of the institutions/companies and their departments where a Data Scientist skills are needed:

  • Financial & Insurance institutions, such as Banks, Brokerage Houses, Leasing Companies, Investment Funds, Insurance companies, FinTech companies etc. (Risk Department, Sales Department, Strategy Department, Marketing Department etc.),
  • Big Corporates (Sales Departments, Marketing Departments, Business Development Departments etc.),
  • Telecommunications companies,
  • Marketing companies,
  • Pharmaceutical companies (Clinical Trials department),
  • Media Houses,
  • Consultancy companies.

 


Admission rules for candidates with Polish diplomas

The programme is open to all international and Polish applicants. Candidates must:

1) have a bachelor, master, engineer or equivalent degree,

2) submit a statement of purpose/cover letter and two letters of recommendation from academics with at least PhD degree, who know the candidate personally,

3) present a transcript of records for the relevant undergraduate cycle (diploma supplement from the EU or the equivalent in other countries).

4) Qualification is based on the ranking list. Ranking points are calculated as following:

  • points for a purpose/cover letter: max 100 pts (10% weight)
  • points for letters of recommendation: max 100 pts for each letter (10% weight for each letter)
  • points awarded for subjects completed during previous course of study: each subject max 100 pts (each subject 10% weight) – numbers of hours and received grade are taken into account

5) in admission procedure it is possible to obtain 100 pts in total

6) Subjects taken under consideration during the qualification procedure. Candidate can choose maximum 7 subjects:

  • Microeconomics
  • Macroeconomics
  • Mathematical Statistics
  • Probability Calculus
  • Econometrics
  • Mathematical Analysis (Mathematical Calculus)
  • Finance
  • Programing in R
  • Programing in Python
  • Programing in SAS language
  • Programing in other languages
  • Data processing in SQL (or other language)
  • Time-series analysis
  • Another mathematical subject (different than above)

7) Before the registration deadline, candidates have to attach syllabuses of the chosen subjects or other document describing the programme of the subject (confirmed by the university).
