Admission rules


The candidate must have completed the first year of second-cycle studies at a university other than the University of Warsaw.

The candidate is qualified on the basis of the weighted average of the grades obtained in the first year of the second-cycle studies, the weight being the number of hours of the subject divided by the number of hours of all subjects credited during the first year. The grades are normalized from 0 to 100: the lowest grade for passed subject corresponds to the value of 0, the highest - the value of 100, the intervals between the grades are equal.

A prerequisite for qualification is a conversation with the Dean of the Faculty of Physics. During conversation the candidate justifies a change of university or field of study. This conversation is not being rated.

Confirmation of English

The candidate should have a confirmed knowledge of English at least B2 according to the European System of Language Description of the Council of Europe, certified by the document referred to in § 16 para. 2 and 4 Resolution No. 378 of the Senate of the University of Warsaw of 19 December 2018 regarding conditions, procedure and dates of recruitment procedure for first-cycle studies, uniform master's studies and second-cycle studies at the University of Warsaw in the academic year
2019/2020 (Monitor UW of 2018, item 343, as amended).

Candidates who do not have a document proving their knowledge of English, have the opportunity to obtain such a certificate during the above-mentioned conversation with the Dean of the Faculty of Physics.


At a candidate's request submitted via the IRK system, the interview may take place using devices allowing for simultaneous transmission of image and sound, with a quality allowing determining the candidate's identity.
